Wiggly Baby (Before & After)

Evan is such a wiggly baby.  At 16 weeks old, he moves his whole body all the time.  I laid him on the floor and about 5 minutes later, he's in a totally different position. Note the play gym is kicked off the blanket as well.

He can also roll from his back to his side (which he's been doing since he was 3 days old).  I keep waiting for him to get all the way over, but it hasn't happened yet. 

He can still roll from belly to back, but doesn't seem to do it as often these days.  He's really working on holding his head up and getting up on his elbows now.

 

And just yesterday, he grabbed his toes for the first time.  I haven't got a picture of it yet, but hopefully will soon.

Sitting up & Tummy Time

We try to keep Evan on the move so that he builds up strength in his neck and shoulders as well as keeps a nicely shaped head.  For babies that sleep on their backs, you have to make sure they get tummy time and sit up a lot during the day.  This will help avoid a flat head.  He does great with tummy time, if he hasn't just eaten or is tired.  It's hard to find that right time some days, but we try to fit it in anyway.  We do it on the Tumzee and on the floor.

 Evan can sit up nicely in the Bumbo now.  We turn on Baby TV and let him watch some in the evenings. 

And he loves to put toys and thumbs in his mouth all the time.

15 Weeks Old

Evan is 15 weeks old today.  He is getting bigger every day.  This week at the doctor's office, he weighed 10 lbs 1.5 oz!  So he is now in the double digits for weight. He measured 22 1/2 inches long.  I can tell he's getting bigger because his 0 - 3 months clothes are now fitting him snug.  He'll be moving into the 3 month size very soon, which makes sense since he's 3 1/2 months old.  He has been right on target with everything so far.  He loves books and loves to watch people's faces.  I introduced him to some soft texture toys this past week and he just loves them against his face.  He is smiling, cooing, and laughing more every day.

 This is his new "moose" face that he likes to do all the time.  He sucks both thumbs at the same time quite often.  Sometimes he even tries to suck his thumb when the bottle is in his mouth.

 This is his favorite toy.  It's worth it's weight in gold.  He can hold it for a long time, transfer it from hand to hand, pick it up easily, and put it in his mouth.

 Vince can get him to smile every day.  He loves his daddy.

 We read books every day.  He likes to help turn the pages.

 Evan wore his first sandals for about 10 minutes.  He kept kicking them off since they were just a smidgen big so he didn't keep them on long.

I had a friend bring over a Tumzee for him to do his tummy time in last week.  He held his head up for a good 10 minutes and played in it well.  I immediately went on line and bought one.  They are only made in Canada and not sold in the U.S. This is an excellent invention so I don't know why they're not in the U.S. yet - probably some government restriction.  I still do tummy time on the floor as well so Evan can practice rolling over, but the Tumzee really lets him concentrate on his shoulders & neck strength. They were sold out of the green & blue ones so I bought him an orange one.

 

Mom and Elise arrived Friday afternoon.  They were great babysitters and Evan loved laughing with them all weekend. 

 

Sitting Up

Evan is doing better every day with holding up his head.  We work with him on tummy time both on the floor & on the boppy.  He also practices holding up his head when he sits up & when he's on our shoulder.  He would still rather rest it against something, but we decided to see how well he did in the Bumbo seat this weekend.  He did great!  He doesn't mind it too much for a few minutes, but I'm sure he'll get better every day. 

3 Months Old

On one hand it seems like we were just in the hospital having Evan and on the other hand, it seems like he's been here with us for a long time.  He is such a good baby! He will be sitting up & crawling before we know it.  He babbles all the time so I know he has something he's trying to tell us. 

He can reach up and grab a toy and hold on to it.

 He can hold his own bottle, with a little guidance.

 He can read a book and help turn the pages.

 He likes to hold his own hands and can sit up with assistance.

 He can grin and smile and sometimes has a little laugh.

 He can hold his head up, when he's not crawling over the boppy.

 And he is just so cute!  Happy 3 months baby Evan!

At 12 weeks old, Evan likes to smile when you smile at him.  He also smiles and talks to his toys.  He loves his bouncy chair and will grab the toys we hang from the dog tail on it.  He has a couple of ball toys that are easy for him to grab.  He will hold them for a long time and tries to put them in his mouth. His other favorite toys have big eyes. He will study your face for a long time and follow you with his eyes when you walk.  He does not like tummy time, but will tolerate it for a few minutes.  He holds his head up well when he is sitting up, but does not hold it up as long on his tummy. He would rather just roll over or kick his legs like he's swimming.

Evan sleeps through the night from about 9:30pm to 6:30am every night.  He usually eats about 4 ounces of Similac Advance formula every 3 hours throughout the day.  He's been using the Dr. Brown bottles for the last two weeks and does great with them.  He typically has 3 or 4 wet diapers after each feeding and 1 dirty diaper per day. His longest nap is in the morning and can last 1 to 3 hours.  He usually only cat naps after that for 30 minutes to an hour. He gets a little fussy when he's wet, is really hungry, or very tired.

He babbles a lot until he starts getting tired.  Then he starts zoning out very quietly. He wakes up very happy.  In fact, I usually get most of my smiles from him in the morning when he first wakes up for the day. I can't wait to hear him start laughing.

We work with him on grabbing toys, holding his bottle, holding his head up, and talking to him often.
