Visit with Marie, Bobby & Kim

Jerry's sister, Marie and her husband Bobby & daughter Kim came to visit with us on Sunday afternoon. They got to hold Evan just as he was going down for a nap. He really likes naps when someone snuggles him, so he had a grand ole time.

While they visited with Evan, Vince was busy planting some new trees in our yard. They are a great natural barrier from our neighbors. He did a great job!

Billy & Eddie Visit

Billy & Eddie came to visit us this weekend. They arrived Saturday morning and were hungry, so we ate a chicken pecan quiche that I made for brunch. We then went to Milliken for family day and enjoyed a tour of the complex & free food for lunch. They were particularly interested in landscaping to get ideas for their new house/yard. This was the perfect weekend to look at trees & shrubs because everything was in bloom.

For dinner we took them to Wade's followed by dessert at the Beacon. Just one of those restaurants is enough to do someone in, but after eating at both of them, we were all stuffed to the gills. The brownie sundae at the Beacon was sooo good, especially since I haven't eaten a lot of sugar lately.

Eddie guessed at Evan's name before he was named & he came up with the funny name of Pierpont Fauntleroy. Billy had a onesie made with his name on it.

They left Sunday morning after eating some of my Ebelskivers (banana stuffed mini pancakes). It was so great to visit with them & I'm glad they got to visit with little Evan!

Daddy's Dressing Gown

Barbara found Vince's baby gown that he had when he was born in 1974. It reminds me of an old fashioned Christening gown that babies wore. I took a few pictures of him in it today. He was not in a good mood for the pictures so I was lucky to get the few that I did. The little bib & shoes were also Vince's. It is almost 38 years old, but looks great on little Evan!

23 Days Old

Evan is so stinking cute.

He hates to have a wet diaper. I mean he HATES it. He will cry until it is changed. This means that even if you just changed him & he wet again, you have to change it again immediately. We're hoping this is a sign that he will be easy to potty train seeing that he doesn't like wet diapers. He doesn't seem to mind stinky diapers at all, just the wet ones.

He is becoming more & more awake these days & they key part of that is days. He sleeps well at night & is very active during the day. He usually sleeps about 3 to 4 hours in stretches at night, feeds & goes right back to sleep. In the day, he feeds more often, especially in the evenings. He is also a little bit more fussy then as he's not sure what to do when he's awake. He's a very happy baby.

And he's photogenic!

Visit with Aunt Linda & Uncle Dennis

Aunt Linda & Uncle Dennis came to visit us Friday & Saturday this past weekend. They had never been to my house before so it was nice that they came to see us & the new baby.

We had a great visit with them. Friday night we ate out at Long Horn Steakhouse while Evan slept the whole time. Aunt Linda sang to Evan lots of older songs & he was so entranced with her.

They left on Saturday morning after breakfast to head back to Alabama. I'm glad Evan got to meet some more relatives.

Evan studies faces so astutely like he's trying so hard to understand the language. We figure he'll be speaking by next week.

Cute Baby Pictures

Evan is very photogenic. He keeps those hands near his face all the time & moves his head back & forth a lot so it's hard to get a good picture of him being still. He makes the cutest noises while he's playing in his little box crib. We put him in this little pack along crib near the window so he can get his daily dose of sunshine. He will wiggle his head so much that any blanket under his head is bunched up in about 10 seconds. He will also kick & scoot until his head touches the top of the little crib. I weighed him this morning on his scale & he's at 6 lbs 4 oz! He went over the 6 pound mark quickly!

Baby's First Weeks

I can't believe Evan is already 2 1/2 weeks old. Let's focus on me for a minute...I'm still quite sore & remember it quite well on the days that I forget to take Advil. I'm wondering when the healing will be over & the stitches no longer hurt. I can sit so much better than I could just one week ago so I know that I'm getting better each week, but I'm ready to feel great & start working out. I can already wear some of my pre-pregnancy clothes & jeans, but I still have several inches in my waist to get rid of before things look right on me. Being able to pump the last two weeks helped as well. I also take an Epson salt bath twice a day. The baths feel great.

Now let's focus on Evan. Evan is such a good baby. We have been so blessed with his disposition. He cries mostly when he's wet and every now & then when he's tired. He has such strong muscle tone as well. He will kick himself up until his head touches the top of whatever bed he's laying in. He grabs everything in a death grip (including his face sometimes, which causes little scratches). His arms & legs move constantly when he's awake. He can turn over on his side (since he was 3 days old) so I'm just waiting for him to turn all the way over. His head moves back & forth so much he's wearing off some hair on the back of his head.

When he sleeps, he has to have one or both hands right up near his face, which is how I sleep as well. He sleeps at night really well - about 3 to 4 hours a stretch. He usually wakes up around 2pm and stays up until about 9pm, with just a cat nap or two in the afternoons. This helps him sleep so great at night. He's currently in a cradle in our bedroom so I can hear him & get to him easily. Soon we'll be putting him in his own room with the monitor, but not until I'm a little more comfortable leaving him in there all night.

He makes lots of cute noises from little kissing smacks to little pig snorts. His eyes are so focused and alert. He is never cross-eyed. He looks right at you or at other objects that keep his attention & he can follow things with his eyes. He is so cute! It was so nice having Vince at home the first two weeks with me. Vince went back to work this week so Evan & I have decided to get out & about a little bit. I'm still sore, so I haven't been doing too much, but it's nice to get out while everything is so pretty & in bloom. Evan is such a precious & loving baby!
